Organization Profile Somali Relief and Development Society (SORDES) is a non-political, not-for-profit, Somalia NGO, was established in Bardera, Gedo region in June 2006 by a group of concerned Somali intellectuals to respond to increased suffering, starvation and death of the communities badly affected by the civil conflict and famine in Somalia through the establishment of community-based rehabilitation and development projects. The organization has mainly focused on Health, Nutrition, Agriculture/livestock, education, Peace promotion, women empowerment, Improvements on environmental, making awareness against the dangerous diseases such as: HIV/AIDS, child right protection as well as responding emergencies. SORDES has built its reputation at grassroots level as a visionary organization capable of working with communities mutually to alter the current course of conflicts and disempowerment at communal and individual level in the region. The organization has also attained recognition as an organization capable of delivering services to the poor communities through collaboration and information-sharing with community grassroots as well Diasporas efforts and agencies working in the same regions with similar objectives. To undertake its mandate, the organization has also focused on upgrading of it staff capacity and organization management and financial systems and effectively responding to emergency. The organization has greatly benefited from its participation in the SOCSIS6P- Training as well EPARA-Programs conducted by OXFAM NOVIB (Oxfam Netherlands).
